Nordic Tourism

During the last year an extensive research project started with focus on the Nordic tourism market. The project originated from a report that was written within the BIG II project and involved several innovative Nordic tourism operators such as: Skistar, The Vasa Museum, and Hotel Borgafjäll and Spa.


Several companies and partners were invited to participate and discuss the topic in workshops and seminars held at Hanken.


The events were hosted by the BIG2 research team and among the participants were Risto Peltola and Pekka Ropponen from the Travel and Tourism Organization, Kari Jussi Aho, chairman of the board at Ruka, and Heikki Vienola, chairman of the board at Tahko.


The research aim was to come up with new strategies and policies to attract more visitors to Finland. To come up with new strategies for Finnish tourism organizations the team interviewed and conducted research analysis of innovative Swedish tourism organizations.


The scientific outcome and the research results was presented in several formats; e.g. a Nordic tourism report issued at Hanken, in a workshop in November 2009, and in two workshops in March 2010 with Ruka & Tahko.
